Making Progress

Posted by v
We’ve passed the first milestone of getting a positive at-home pregnancy test. Correction:  a dozen at-home pregnancy tests, because the first six might be a fluke.
Stay tuned: Blood test on Monday.

Who’s the Daddy?

posted by Mel

There are a lot of interesting discussions in the fertility/lesbian mom blogosphere around parenting roles, specifically whether a non-bio/non-birth mom equates to or should equate to a dad and how to navigate those dangerous waters. After all, most women are never going to see themselves as fathers, nor do they want to be called [...]

The other half of the story

posted by Mel
With my last post I fear I might have given you all the impression that it’s all hairy showers and crusty dishes over here. There’s lots of good stuff, too– like the other day when I was helping Vanessa get the dogs to the car to go to daycare and Eric rushed out [...]

Them’s the Rules

posted by Mel
Now that Eric has been with us for a little more than a week, the honeymoon is drawing to a close– you know, the period where I wanted as much family time as possible because, damn it, the three of us are a family now, and I want to get started making some [...]

New IVF Protocol

Posted by v.
Our IVF drug protocol arrived in the mail a few days ago, and I’m breathing a huge sigh of relief. Dr. G has me on Follistim and Menopur. Follistim is a lot easier to administer than Bravelle and Menopur. Also, Mel didn’t overstimulate on Follistim the way she did with B & M. [...]

Congrats!

A big congratulations to Co and Lo at The Family O, who have achieved the Holy Grail– conception! Seriously, Vanessa and I are ecstatic for you. It gives us hope that maybe all of this fertility hell is worth it in the end. We wish you a happy healthy pregnancy and baby. Keep us posted.

Mel Is Right

The nursery is coming together. Mel painted the ceiling, and it looks Pottery Barn amazing. She cut in the walls Sunday and finishing priming today. Every time I walk through the dining room I catch a little hint of green coming from the nursery. When I look that way, I get all tingly inside thinking [...]

So very negative

Apparently the docs are just as surprised as we are that we didn’t get pregnant this time. The stars were all aligned. We know I produced a good follicle. We know I ovulated. My cervix was open, and we had good cervical fluid. Our nurse practitioner says that my tubes might be blocked– so I [...]

Dear OBGYN offices of the world

It’s cruel and unusual torture to tell someone the results of their pregnancy test will be in at 3 and then not answer the phone after 3. This will likely pass, particularly if we are pregnant this month, but right now, I hate you.
